Boilerplate — short

Mohio is the first programming language where AI reasoning is a compiler-enforced native primitive. Declaring ai.decide in Mohio gives developers typed AI decisions with mandatory fallbacks, confidence thresholds, and automatic audit trails built into the syntax. One declaration — sector: financial or sector: healthcare — activates industry-specific compliance enforcement automatically. Mohio is open source (Apache 2.0) and is built by Particular LLC, Charlotte, North Carolina. Patent pending. MOHIO™.

Boilerplate — long

Mohio (pronounced moh-hee-oh, Māori for "to understand") is a new programming language built by Particular LLC in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded on March 23, 2026 by Ron Smith, Mohio is the first commercially available programming language where AI reasoning is a compiler-enforced native primitive — part of the syntax, not a library or API call.

A single declaration, sector: financial or sector: healthcare, activates industry-specific compliance enforcement automatically: PCI-DSS, SOC2, HIPAA, HITECH, and BSA/AML rules, field type awareness, threshold detection, and audit trails — with no library installation and no configuration files. Mohio's ai.decide primitive gives developers typed AI decisions with mandatory fallbacks, confidence thresholds, and automatic decision logging enforced by the compiler.

The Mohio language and base compiler are open source under Apache 2.0. Commercial tiers cover certified sector profiles, the hosted runtime, and compliance dashboards. Mohio is pre-public-launch, with an invite-and-apply Pioneer Program onboarding early builders. A live text adventure running entirely in Mohio is available at zork.mohio.io. Patent pending. MOHIO™.

Ron Smith

RS
Ron Smith
Founder & Lead Developer · Particular LLC

Ron Smith is the founder of Particular LLC and the creator of Mohio, based in Mooresville, North Carolina. A developer with 25 years of experience across PHP, enterprise systems, and application architecture, Smith designed and built the first working Mohio compiler in 14 days — one developer working alongside AI, in early mornings, lunch breaks, and evenings.

Mohio emerged from a question Ron had been carrying for years: why does every language treat AI as something you bolt on afterward? The core syntax was designed on a phone during a roadside breakdown on I-77; the sector profile system was designed in a Dunkin' drive-thru. The first GitHub commit on March 23, 2026 confirms the founding date.

Ron's position is that the first-mover window for an AI-native programming language is six to twelve months, and is building Mohio to be production-ready for financial, healthcare, and government applications before that window closes.

Building something serious? There's a deeper end of the pool.

When AI makes real decisions — money, health, eligibility, safety — you need compliance, agents you can govern, persistent memory, audit trails, and cost control you can prove. Finance, healthcare, government, logistics, and more.
